What is Targeted Recruitment?

Targeted recruitment is a focused hiring approach where organizations attract and hire candidates who meet specific criteria or fall into a certain category.

Organizations are very strict in their open role promotions and strategically source applicants who possess the required qualifications, belong to a minority, or hail from a particular location.

Usually, the main purpose of targeted recruitment is to create diversity in the workplace. However, in some instances, companies seek individuals with a unique set of skills. Targeted recruitment is the right approach in both scenarios.

What Is a Targeted Recruitment Strategy?

A sound targeted recruitment strategy includes promoting jobs in specific places or platforms so only the preferred candidates would see them. A targeted recruitment strategy aims to capture the attention of people with specific skills, characteristics, or experience.

The goals of a targeted recruitment strategy are specific. Research is conducted to understand where the targeted pool of talent would work or live, or spend their time online.

Organizations must keep targeting these individuals with regular postings and promotions.

A recruitment agency or software can be used to cut costs and save time, especially when the organization does not have additional resources required for targeted recruitment.

Open vs. Targeted Recruitment

Open and targeted recruitment are quite different in their approach.

Open recruitment is preferred when an organization is looking to fill a position immediately or when there are multiple openings. They can promote the job openings on social media and various job platforms to receive as many applications as possible.

Targeted recruitment only focuses on a small pool of talent. Its primary goal is to find candidates with very specific skill sets.

The candidate quality in open recruitment might not be outstanding as many unqualified candidates could apply after seeing the job opening on a platform.

Targeted recruitment offers a more efficient and customized approach. Therefore, organizations attract a small number of candidates, but they have the required skills and fulfill the criteria.
